Michael co-founded Gumtree.com in the UK in 1999 and subsequently launched it in a further 10 countries, on five continents.
Gumtree is a market leader in the UK, Australia and South Africa. The business was grown via cash flow, taking no venture capital funding. It was acquired from Michael and his co-founder, Simon Crookall, by Ebay.

Following the sale of Gumtree, Michael and Simon founded Slando, another classifieds business, in 10 other countries. This was later sold to Naspers in 2011.
